A Flórida, nos anos 60 e 70, devia um lugar legal pra caramba. O soul de lá soava bem diferente do que o de Memphis ou de Detroit. Pode não ter sido o mais famoso de todos, mas com certeza está entre os melhores. Já tivemos mostras disso aqui no blog com o Miami Sound - Rare Funk & Soul from Miami, Florida 1967-1974, postado pelo Genésio no ano passado.

Mas dessa vez, vamos atacar com outro artista. O guitarrista Willie Hale. "Quem?", você deve ter se perguntado. Pois eu respondo: O Little Beaver. Ganhou o apelido por ser dentuço, e o fez conhecido pelo talento com as mãos. Willie costumava ser músico de estúdio da TK Records (gravadora da banda KC and The Sunshine Band até 81). Sabe a música Clean Up Woman, da Betty Wright? Então, é ele na guitarra!

Willie tinha a idade mística do rock 'n' roll (27) quando lançou o álbum Joey, em 72. No seu primeiro disco solo, o rapaz dentuço do Arkansas descobre sua identidade musical, única e distinta. Uma mistura muito competente de blues e soul, marcada pela guitarra certeira e grooveada.

O disco em si é sensacional do começo ao fim, mas tenho que admitir: Joey é uma das melhores músicas que já ouvi na minha vida! É impossível de resistir à deliciosa melodia, de não se apaixonar pelos lindos vocais. À parte isso, recomendo também as faixas Give A Helping Hand e That's How It Is.

Florida, at the 60's and 70's, must have been a really cool place. Their soul sounded so different them Memphis' and Detroit's ones. But this time we're striking with another artist. The guitar player Willie Hale. "Who tha fuck?", you might be asking yourself. Calm down, I'll tell ya: the Little Beaver. He got his nickname as a kid 'cause of his teeth, and made the name famous by the feat of his hands. Willie, back in the days, used to be a session musician for Tk Records (KC & The Sunshine Band's label until 81). Have you folks ever heard Betty Wright's Clean Up Woman? That's his guitar you've listened to!

Willie was at the mystical roockstars age (27) when he released Joey (1972). In his first solo album, the toothy fella from Arkansas found his musical identity, unic and dinguishable. A very talented mix of blues and soul, marked by a very groovy guitar.

The album itself is sensational from the beginin' 'til the end. But I do have to admit: Joey is one of the best songs I've ever heard! It's impossible to resist that delicious melody or the beautiful vocals. In spite of that, I also recommed the tracks Give A Helping Hand and That's How It Is.
