O sul dos Estados Unidos sempre foi um caldeirão musical, um verdadeiro entreveiro de sonoridades. O blues, o jazz, o rock, o gospel, o country, o bluegrass, o swamp rock, o rhythm and blues... Todos esses estilos encontram suas origens naquela parte específica da terra do Tio Sam. Envolvido em mistérios, lendas, superstições, procenceitos, influências caribenhas e africanas, o sul dos Estados Unidos figura no inconsciente coletivo da nação (e até mesmo do mundo), de uma forma ou de outra, há um bom tempo. E isso se torna claro quando vemos um certo estilo de música que se tornou a expressão dessa misturança que é a região: o southern rock.

O southern rock tem entre seus fundadores verdadeiras lendas da música mundial. Bandas como Creedence Clearwater Revival, Lynyrd Skynyrd, Allman Brothers Band, Molly Hatchet e Marshall Tucker Band ajudaram a moldar o gênero. E hoje nós falaremos um pouco mais da Marshall Tucker Band.

Formada na Carolina do Sul nos anos 60 como Toy Factory, a banda teve sua trajetória interrompida para que alguns de seus membros lutassem no Vietnã. Em seu retorno, já em 72, o lineup da banda foi mudado, assim como seu nome: Eis que surge a Marshall Tucker Band. Seu sucesso começa a se consolidar já no final dos anos 70, especialmente com o disco que estamos postando, California Dreams (1977), o disco que encontrou o maior sucesso comercial.

O Carolina Dreams é, além de um sucesso comercial, uma obra-prima musical. Suas oito faixas são dignas de serem classificadas como clássicos do rock mundial. Abrindo o disco com a boa Fly Like An Eagle e passando pelas baladas Heard It In A Love Song e I Should Have Never Started Lovin' You (um dos destaques do disco, com certeza), temos as ótimas guitarras de Life In A Song. Agora, os dois maiores destaques do álbum ficam por conta da linda Desert Skies e da empolgante Silverado.

The south of the United States always was a musical melting pot, a real "salad fruit" of sounds. The blues, the jazz, the rock, the country, the bluegrass, the swamp rock, the rhythm and blues... All this styles can trace back their origins to this specific part of Uncle Sam's land. Deeply involved in mysteries, legends, supersticions, prejudices, caribean and african influences, the southern US has been in the colective unconsciousness of the nation (even of the world), in a way or another, for a long time now. And that is clear when we see a certain genre of music that became the true expression of this melting pot: the southern rock.

The southern rock has among its founders true legends of the world's music. Bands as Creedence Clearwater Revival, Lynyrd Skynyrd, Allman Brothers Band, Molly Hatchet and Marshall Tucker Band helped to shape the genre. And today we'll speak a lil' bit more 'bout Marshall Tucker Band.

Founded at South Carolina in the mid 60's as Toy Factory, the band had its trajectory stoped 'cause some of its members went to fight the Vietnam War. When they got back, the music project was restarted. But in 72 the lineup was changed once again, aswell as their name: that's how Marshall Tucker Band appears. Its success begun to secure in the late 70's, specially with the album we're posting right now, California Dreams (1977). It was their most comercially successful record.

Carolina Dreams is, beyond a comercial success, a musical masterpiece. Its eight trakcs are worthy of being classified as true worlds classics. Opening the record, we got the good Fly Like An Eagle and then we go through the ballads Heard It In A Love Song and I Should Have Never Started Lovin' You (certainly one of the album's highlights), then we got the astonishing guitars of Life In A Song. But lemme say this: the greatest songs in this album are surely the beautiful Desert Skies and the thrilling Silverado. A good way to close an album, huh? Enjoy it, folks!
